Season 4 – Week 7 – Finger of Death warms up as the Pepslay Challenge begins

The Pepslay Challenge 2509/10 kicked off in style this week. 16 of the 18 teams in the league saw some action in what will go down as one of the bloodiest weeks in HDWSBBL History. 31 causalities were recorded with a record 8 resulting in death, the highest for this season (and possibly ever). Let’s kick off the report at the top of the draws and work our way down.

The Predators hosted a match against the Jackles. The sunny weather allowed both teams to be on form in what turned out to be a great match, Early on, the Jackles had the Predators on the back foot as one of the mummies managed to squash a Skink early on. However the Predators used their superior agility to dance past the skeletons to rack up the win and take themselves through into the top half of the Pepslay League Table. Player of the amtch goes to the Skink Kimo for his spectacular movements around the pitch

The Deadheads played the Orcland Cleavers in a very slow paced match. But that didn’t stop the action on both sides. The Cleavers looked hot in the first half making some very good plays and holding the ball well. But the slippery Deadheads managed to dodge their way into the cages formed by the Cleavers and won by a two touchdown victory. The Cleavers are starting to look better as they progress. Player of the match was Ian Crush of the Deadhead’s for breaking up a cage and storming the first touchdown in.

The Rangers looked to continue their superb form by taking on the Man Eaters. But despite the Ranger’s holding the advantage on paper, no one saw what was coming. With two key players getting killed in the first few minutes the fans got very worried that this could be the demise of the Rangers. But as luck saw the Rangers managed to over come the odds and thump in seven! touchdowns a new league record. Sadly this came at a price as star catcher and long time serving player Elison Crownstar met his maker. He will be missed sorely. Player of the match has to go to Caneran Everlong for scoring a massive four touchdowns and kick starting the Rangers campaign in the Pepslay.

With the Reavers getting crushed by Atrocity the previous week, the Bile Blitzers were hoping for an upset. The Bile ones certainly gave it their all, managing to burst through the Reavers defence on a number of occasions. However the Reavers experience pulled them through and they just managed to score a winning Touchdown just before the end of the match. They are thankful that none of their players got infected with the Rot and that they are up to full strength again for next weeks competition in the league. Player of the match was the Blitzers BlightDung who continues to impress week after week.

One of the more anticipated matches of the evening was the encounter between the Corsairs and RSV. 32,000 fans crammed into the stadium to witness the first time in the history of the HDWSBBL two winners of the HDWSBBL Championship Cup face off.

Both teams gave it their all and for the first half, the match could have gone either way. The Corsairs scored first but were quickly matched by a Touchdown by Ulrichson of RSV which was his first in quite some time. By half time, the game could have gone either way when suddenly RSVs luck turned for the worse as their Star Catcher Roeder was taken out of the game. After that the Corsairs dominated despite taking lots of damage.

In the end it was a truly spectacular game with both teams giving it them all. We even got time for a little air display as both teams were leaping through the air, trying to get through the carnage. Player of the match went to Corsairs #11 Valdrek Bloodgate who managed to score two Touchdowns, make two completions and catch two Interceptions. All this amongst consistent pouring rain and a blizzard.

After last week Atrocity has been ranked high in the bookie to win the match. But the Vixens however had differnt ideas. It was a tough match for both teams as the half time score came to a nail-biting one all. But the Atrocity machince soon tore down the hopes of the Vixens continuing their unbeaten record by maiming five players and then scoring another two touchdown to storm ahead. Player of the match was Horkarth Gravelender for scoring two amazing touchdowns for Atrocity.

WTF took on the Beaumont Blitzers for the first time and due to the unique nature of their playing arrangements both teams played at home! WTF took an early lead in the match and dominated for some time before the Blitzers offence started to take its toll on the Elves. WTF showed true determination and never gave up until the very end.
Player of the match goes to the block Orc Paddy for constantly being a thorn in the sides of the team, and for scoring a Touchdown!

The Slammers took on the Shadows in a match that neither team was looking forward too. Both teams had already faced each other during the Open Scramble and so they knew what to expect. The Shadows were determined to stop the Slammers winning streak dead in its tracks and threw everything at the Skaven. Most of the match was a close game but the Shadows players came through in the end and took the win managing to kill two of the dirty rats in the process. As the Shadows picked up the first win of the season, the fans in attendance sung the name of Spider Rat in remembrance. Player of the match goes to Shadows Werewolf Erza Wheedon for having a decent game and not being a total F**k Tard for once (thank Gerhard for that quote).

We are currently awaiting the final match from the first round to take place. Once this has been completed the fixtures for the second round will be available. As a reminder, the fixtures will be based on the team’s positions in the league table. The team in 1st will take on the team in second; the team in third will take on the team in fourth and so on. Stay tuned to the website to see the fixtures, once the final match ahs taken place.

Next week, the Open Scramble 2509/10 resumes and should see most of North and South Division participate.

  1. Spider rat managed to trip over and kill him self, im amazed how much my team players try and get them selfs out of a match, they dont like the look off, hopefully his replacement will be a bit better, we have a young rat lined up, his name Wonder Rat, just need to buy the new gutter runner first Bat Rat.
