Season 4 – Week 19 – Surprise Victorys as Slammer Shield Gets Underway!

Reporter: Bob Fortune

This week saw the start of the Slammer Shield and what a start we have had. Nearly all the entrants played with only one match being postponed till next week. Nevertheless there was plenty of action and upsets, and we have it all here on the Warzone.

The first match was between the Tail Slammers and the Innsmouth Shadows. This match was begrudged by the Shadows coach as it will of been the fourth time this season they have had to play the Slammers, but the HDWSBBL board threw the book at the Shadows and explained that they were taking the forth place spot in West after the unlikely drop out of the Bar Flys. The match begin well for the Shadows after hitting a few rats out for the count and taking an early lead. But just before the half-time whistle the Slammers managed to equalize levelling the score. Shaken up by the turn of events the Shadows didn’t look the same team as they started. Too many chances went missing and a swift play by the Slammers allowed Invisible Rat to score and amazing victory touchdown. Bookies had made the Shadows the Favourite to win but after this upset who knows who could win the shield.

Second match was the Man Eaters taking on the Orcland Cleavers. The Cleavers who have out performed their critics this season by actually winning a few games and almost knocking the Grinders off third place looked like they may have met their match. The Man Eaters who are a veteran team of last season stepped up eager to win the match and progress. This indeed looked the case as they quickly took out some of the Orcs for the match and went on to score the early touchdown. But they Cleavers dug in their heels and held the Ogres back. Knocking a few of the Ogres down and blitzing up the field they managed to level the score to one a piece and keep their hopes alive of progressing. The second half came to a stalemate, each team became quite tired an no one looked like they would win the match. But a luck chance for the cleavers saw them grind down the pitch in true Orc fashion and score the winning touchdown in the dying seconds of overtime. The Cleavers looked to be on top form but they go into the next round facing either We tree fellows or the Beaumont Blitzers which could prove too much a challeneg for this rookie team.

Our last match of the Evening was between the Grappler Flesh Grinders and the Tutsbones Jackalls. The Grinders who lost out their place for the Championship after a string of defeats had to settle for the shield which they still seemed quite keen for. The Jackalls however have not been performing too well this season. After only one win and a whole bunch of defeats it seemed clear that the Jackalls were finally out for the count this season. This was of course all true for the eyes of this reporter as the Grinders performed one of the best victory’s of the season for them. The Grinders dominated the entire game not allowing the Jackalls even a looking onto the ball. After a three touchdown margin the Jackalls knew they were finally out of the shield. If the Grinders keep this performance up and manage to get one over on the slippery Slammers, then they could well go one to winning the entire competition.

Another exciting week of Blood Bowl in over and only a few more weeks remain till we find out this seasons champions. This reporter cannot wait.

      1. Do you skaven deliberately try and make yourself look stupid or does it just come naturally?

From what I hear, you winning was due to you greasy bastards making the ball all slippery rather then tactical brilliance!

ps. good luck Grinders, I am counting on you to destroy the vermin
