Season 4 – Week 26 – Slammer Rule, Velocity Drool!

This week witnessed two more games in the Pepslay Challenge 2509/10 take place bringing the competition ever closer to an end. It was believed that we would know the team who came last by this week but due to some surprising results that will have to be determined next week and it will all hang on a single match! So without further ado let’s recap on this week’s action.

The main match of the week was between Ragnars Swift Velocity and the Tail Slammers. Not many fans will quickly forget the first time these teams encountered each other back at the start of the 2508/09 Season where RSV scored a staggering 7 Touchdowns against the Tail Slammers. However times have changed. While RSV have come under a lot of criticism (mainly from former head coach Gerhard Rockstein) for their poor performances, the Tail Slammers have upped their game and recently won the HDWSBBL Shield in the Competition named after themselves!

As both teams lined up it was clear that the small number of the Velocity faithful where restless in the stands. As both teams entered the pitch there where booed until kick off and showered with anything not bolted down! While the Opening Drive by the Slammers ended before it began when their new Rat Ogre knocked itself out on RSV Catcher Roeder, the Slammers soon bounced back and capitalised on the slower human players and Batrat soon raced home an early Touchdown.

RSV fought back hard on the next drive and began to take many Skaven off the pitch (including the recent Star of the Slammer Shield Completion, Invisible Rat)! With the numbers thinned, RSV advanced towards the End zone looking to score but they underestimated the speed of the opposition and where quickly cornered. Once swift turn-over later and Slammer legend Arcani Spark screamed over RSV’s End zone to score their second!

After the break RSV again tried to put some pressure on the Skaven and managed to break through the defences. Although Roeder has been quiet for most of this season, he revisited his record breaking ways for a moment and scored a Touchdown for Velocity. The Skaven were not to be put off though. They managed to break down field with the aid of their Rat Ogre got within yards of the End zone. RSV held them off for as long as they could but Arcani Spark would not be denied and darted over the line.

With the Slammers scoring their third Touchdown the Velocity fans erupted into violence. They surged down onto the pitch and surprisingly ignored the Skaven and went after their own team! Total chaos ensued as the Skaven fans joined in the melee and the referee was forced to abandon the match! We hope both teams made it out alive…

The other match was the anticipated game between the Valhallen Vixen’s and the Wee Tree Fellows. With WTF placed joint at the bottom of the table they had everything to play for. The Vixen’s where also looking for a win as their performance in the Pepslay Challenge was abysmal when compared to their performance in the Open Scramble 2509/10 earlier in the Season.

From the start of the match the Vixen’s controlled most of the action. The throwers of WTF managed to pass the ball around with the skill expected from them but they where unable to get the ball down the field where it mattered. The Vixen’s eventually opened up the scoring when Inga scored late in the 1st half.

The second half saw much of the same but WTF where not about to give up without a fight. After some amazing (lucky?) plays WTF Catcher Dec ran across the line with the ball in his hands to score a late equaliser.

The third match to take place was a first in the HDWSBBL. As many will know both the Ruskin Arms Bar Flys and the Mc Cauligh Reavers have pulled out of this Season which means that any opponents they are set to play should get a forfeit. However as both teams where lined up to play each other the HDWSBBL Commissioners decided that the match should end in a 1-1 draw giving both teams the 10 points.

Next week should determine who the next seasons HDWSBBL Shield competition will be named after. So which team could it be? Well the teams who will battle it out for last place are the Orcland Cleavers and the Wee Tree Fellows. Looking at the standings as they are, the Cleavers are at the bottom of the table. However WTF are only 10 points ahead of them and are behind on Touchdown and Causality difference!

If the Cleavers manage to win or draw against the Bile Blitzers next week then they will escape the bottom and the Shield will be named after WTF. However if the Bile Blitzers win then the Shield will be named after the Cleavers. It is all to play for!

We will find out the result next week, along with the result of the Jackels vs Man Eaters match. Hopefully we will be able to finally declare the winner of the Pepslay Challenge 2509/10!

Until next week sports fans, may Nuffle bless your games!
