Even though the league is now suspended over the festive break, we are sure the teams and their players are getting ready for the New Year.
We are now entering the final stages of the Open Scramble 2510/11, the Spite Challenge round 2 is fast approaching and if we look to the horizon we will the approaching shapes of the Championship V and the Cleaver Cup!
Open Scramble 2510/11
In the New Year the remaining matches in the Open Scramble will take place. I am pleased to report that we appear to be on schedule although a few teams are slightly behind! Neither of the two divisions have a clear winner as of yet and any one of a number of teams could end up as the divisional champions and make it through to the league final. Let’s take a look at the Divisions.
|The Innsmouth Shadows||5||3||1||1||13||7||6||12||9||3||10|
|We Tree Fellows||4||0||2||4||10||12||-2||5||9||-4||2|
North Division has three main contenders in the running, the Innsmouth Shadows, the Tail Slammers and the Orcland Cleavers. There are only 2 points between the team in first place (the Shadows) and the team in third (the Cleavers) and all three teams have only a single game to play.
The winner of the division hangs on the results of two matches, the Shadows vs the Cleavers and the Slammers vs the WhereInTheHellAreWeTribe (in what will be the Slammers 30th game). If the Shadows win their match then they will be declared outright winners of North Division, however if the Shadows draw with the Cleavers or the Cleavers win the match AND the Slammers defeat the Halflings then the Slammers win the Division. The only chance the Cleavers have is if they defeat the Shadows and the Slammers lose or draw with the Halflings. We have no previous encounters to reference for these two matches so it is anybodies guess as to the outcomes. Even the normal safe bet of the Halflings being defeated is not guaranteed because of the little ones surprise recent form in defeating two teams!
Those paying close attention will also notice the Predators sitting in fourth position with two games in hand. Their two opponents are the Wee Tree Fellows and the Brewers. If the teams at the top stumble and the Predators win their final two matches then they could leapfrog the other teams and take the Divisional title! Stranger things happened in the HDWSBBL!
To qualify for the Championship V a team has to finish in the top two positions. At the moment in North Division 5 of the 7 teams are in a position to qualify (everyone apart from the Brewers and the Wee Tree Fellows) which means that even if a team cannot win the division, every point they can earn will help them! We are not likely to determine who qualifies until the very last game has taken place.
|The Loren Rangers||3||3||0||0||8||3||5||5||2||3||9|
|The Tutsbone Jackles||5||1||2||2||5||6||-1||9||9||0||5|
South Division is a bit clearer. There are three teams with 9 points at the top of South Division, the ever dominating Loren Rangers, the Brimstone Flayers and the Lustrian Leapers. The safe bet is on the Rangers as they still have 3 more games to play! However their upcoming opponents (the Leapers, the Gemcutters and old rivals the Manhunters) could cost them dear. Depending on the outcomes the Gemcutters could even move from fourth place to 1st if they manage to win all their remaining games!
The race for finishing in the top two positions is open to four teams. Unfortunately it looks like the Jackles, the Manhunters and Damage Inc are out of the running for the Championship V as they all only have one game to play and even if they win their final matches they will still not have the 9 points minimum required to move into the top teams. Damage Inc is still the only team in the competition not to score any points.
Spite Challenge 2510/11
We have one outstanding match to take place in the opening round of the Spite Challenge 2510/11. Once that match has taken place we will announce the fixtures for the second round which is due to take place in late January. After that the third round will follow only a few weeks later giving little time for the teams to rest! The first round saw a few shock results so the second round will be very interesting. We will have more information on the next round shortly.
The Championship V
It is hard to believe that this season will see the 5th competition for the HDWSBBL Championship Cup. Three teams have lifted the greatest HDWSBBL prize over the last four seasons and the current teams are desperate to carve their name into the plinth.
Because of the reduced number of Divisions in this seasons league competition only the top two teams from each division will be taking part in the Championship V ensuring that action will be intense. The below table will show how the matches will be arranged:
|Winner of North Division vs
Runner-up of South Division
|To Be Confirmed|
|Winner of South Division vs
Runner-up of North Division
With only three matches the competition may be brief but a lot of the teams in contention will be giving it their all as it will be their final shot at a HDWSBBL Championship. It will be one to watch as always.
The Cleaver Cup
This season’s competition for the HDWSBBL Shield is named in honour of the leagues only Orc team, the Orcland Cleavers. Once again the team the cup is named after is doing much better this season and have a chance to slide into the Championship Cup (and critics said that having the shield named after them was an insult).
As there are 14 teams this season and 4 of them are entering the Championship V, it means 10 teams will be competing for the Shield (We know that most of you can do the maths yourselves but we have to help the Orc and Skaven readers of this site). We have had a number of questions around how many rounds this competition will have and how we will determine who will face who. After much debate we have determined that there will have to be a qualification round just like last season. The competition can then commence in full. Below shows how the matches will be organised:
|Qualification||Quarter Final||Semi Final||Final|
|6th Place of North Division vs
7th Place of South Division
|To Be Confirmed vs
3rd Place of South Division
|To Be Confirmed||To Be Confirmed|
|4th Place of North Division vs
5th Place of South Division
|4th Place of South Division vs
5th Place of North Division

We hope that answers any questions you might have had. If not, let us know in the comments below and we will do our best to answer.
More information for both the Championship V and the Cleaver cup will be announced in the news section of the site in the new year.
It has been a frantic few months here in the HDWSBBL with all the games taking place. We have seen things that we didn’t think where possible and we have seen the birth of new stars that will continue to shine brightly over the next few seasons (unless Nuffle has his way). It’s hard to believe that we are witnessing the final matches for a few of the veteran teams but we are sure they will give it their all before they throw in the towel!
The leagues website should still be getting new content over the break. Gerhard has promised to review the top player standings again and see how much they have changed over the last few months and the network is being constantly updated by the teams with all their latest news.
Merry Christmas from the HDWSBBL Team.
