Season 12 – Round 1 – Challenge Cup

BH: Well folks the first round of the Challenge Cup got underway and we have full coverage right here of each match. There was certainly a lot going on in the matches so lets take a closer look at what happened!

Arcani\’s All Sparks 1 (2) – 2 (4) Khorne Stars

The All Sparks go off to the dream start after scoring a very early touchdown before the Stars could even begin! They even managed to take out a couple of their players as well, but this was to be the only enjoyable part of the match for them. Once the Khorne Stars, who made their debut in this match, organized themselves and started playing they gave the Skaven what for. The Lead didn’t last very much longer than the remaining time in the first half, but the Sparks were indeed Sparked out by the roughening of the Stars. With very little in terms of outfield players it was only a matter of time before the Khorne Stars strolled in the second touchdown during the second period while in the meantime making sure that no Spark players were left standing. A very entertaining match for those fans who detest Skaven.

The Deadly Spawn 3 (1) – 1 (2) Suderholm Snow Leopards

Both teams have previously performed fairly well in previous seasons but this was the best opportunity for them to gain a Championship Cup. The Norse started off the better of the two but their lack of inflicting any injuries on the Spawn caused them real headaches on the pitch, along with leaping Slann everywhere they really had their work cut out. The Spawn ran the Leopards ragged and they just could not keep up with them. Had they of taken a few players out it would of been a very different story. A very good start to the Deadly Spawn who were indeed very deadly in this match.

Hashut Hairy Hammers 1 (1) – 0 (1) Pastafarians

A slog of a match between two giants. The Pastafarians were the favourites in this match, but the off season training (if there were any) didn’t pay off for them. Anything they tried went wrong in this roller coaster of a match. The Hammers, making their debut, kept the Orcs on their toes the entire match and almost looked like they had even played this game before. A close but deserved win for the Hammers gives them a perfect start.

Averheim Eagles 4 (3) – 2 (1) Meadow Glade Mustangs

In a match which involves Elves one can expect a flurry of touchdowns and dazzling plays. However the Eagles had different ideas when they chucked the Elf playbook into the faces of the Mustangs and out-elfed them! The Mustangs did have some terrible luck on their side, nothing the rookies did went well and when it did the Eagles, rookies as well, took their opportunities and it paid off massively for them. The Eagles went on to score a whopping four touchdowns giving them a real edge in the tiebreakers. A team to surely watch out for if they keep playing like this.

BH: That concludes the first round matches! The next report will be later than normal due to a match being rescheduled during the weeks break. But stayed tuned for more action next week in the other three matches!

HDWSBBL - Did You Know

After the Championship II, Lars Ulrichson of Ragnars Swift Velocity was the top scorer in competitions for the HDWSBBL Championship cup. What makes this more impressive is that he had only played in two matches for the cup while other teams had played 3 or 4!

In fairness to the Leopards they played an equally good game in the first half, and it was only in the second half that the Frogs began to outpace them. A lot of that came down to a +2 fame bonus and getting two extra rerolls in that second half on the frogs behalf.
