The Championship II Winners: The Strickland Slammers

Last weeks thrilling Championship Final saw us crown new Championship Cup Winners, the Strickland Slammers.

After a hard fought match, the Slammers defeated the Loren Rangers 3-0. The Rangers gave it everything they had but in the end the extra practice by the Slammers paid off.

With the final now complete, the 2507/08 season of the HDWSBBL draws to a close. Never fear though as the 2508/09 season is due to start in 6 short weeks. If you played in this season then you should be contacted shortly to see if you will be returning to play next season.

Championship II Final this week

This Thursday will see the long anticipated final of the Championship II. Live from the HDWSBBL Stadium, the Loren Rangers will take on the Strickland Slammers.

The Strickland Slammers have been on great form as of late. Since making their debut in the HDWSBBL they have overcome almost all obstacles. The only team that they have never defeated is their opponents the Loren Rangers.

The Slammers made it through to the Final by defeating the favourites the Karak Smashers in a tense game that ended up going to golden TD. Since then they have spent the last 6 weeks preparing for this match by constant training and practice. Rumour has it that they dressed up their training dummies in the colours of the Rangers to help focus their attacks.

The Rangers on the other hand have been pretty laid back. They cruised through to finals after defeating the Loren Tornadoes in a great derby match. This will be their first Championship Final and they have their hopes pinned on lifting one Championship this season after missing out on the League cup 2 months ago.

Can the Slammers defeat the Rangers for the first time or will the Rangers sweep over them in a blaze of style? To find out, tune in to Sly Sports this Thursday as the Second season of the HDWSBBL draws to a close.

Season 2 Week 23 summary – The Championship Semis are complete

Both the Semi-Final games in this seasons Championship Tournament have been completed and we have our two finalists. We saw two great games which attracted fans from all over the Old World to witness these titans do battle.

The first match was between the League and Pitrat Champions, the Karak Smashers against the rising stars of the league, the Strickland Slammers. The Smashers where out to dominate the match and hoped to go on to be the first team in HDWSBBL history to win all 3 championships in a season. The Slammers where not going to let that intimidate them. They have had a great first season with only bad luck keeping them from obtaining other championships.

66 thousand fans gathered to watch this match. The Smashers quickly took possession and scored an early touchdown. As the Dwarf fans geared themselves up for another win the Slammers fought back and equalised just before the final whistle. As we had to have a winner, the match entered into extra time. Both teams fought tooth and nail but in the end the Slammers slipped past the Dwarf defence and scored the winner. As the Slammers fans stormed the pitch the Smashers stormed off in disgust as their dreams of a triple where over.

The other Semi-Final games was a derby match between the Loren Rangers and the Loren Tornadoes. Despite appalling weather 66 thousand fans crammed into the Rangers Loren Dome (despite the capacity being only 60,000) to watch the first ever Wood-Elf vs Wood-Elf match here in the HDWSBBL.

It was apparent from the word go that luck was not on the side of the Tornadoes. At several points the ball slipped from their fingers as their made their play. The first half had no clear leader until the final few moments when the Rangers managed to dance past the defence and score.

From there the match was all one-sided. The Rangers took advantage of the Tornadoes bad luck and scored another 3 touchdowns ending the match 4 -0. We really have to give credit where it is due as both teams deserved the win. They performed amazing plays that would make any other jealous. In the end, the Tornadoes luck ran out as the Rangers advanced into their first Championship Cup Final.

That means that our final match will pit two teams from the North Division, the Human Strickland Slammers and the Wood-Elf Loren Rangers. This match is sure to be spectacular so stay tuned to this site for all the details and build-up to this final game.

The Championship II Preview

It’s been a very long league indeed but it’s finally time for the Championship II to happen. Four teams will battle it out to win this most valuable cup. The winner of the cup will receive the trophy plus 40,000gp plus winnings while the runner-up will get 20,000gp and winnings. The tickets will sell like hot cakes so remember your attendance is doubled.

Last year’s winners Ragner’s Swift Velocity didn’t qualify this year but last years third place team the Loren Rangers made another appearance after winning North Division.

The Strickland Slammers, a new team this season, has shown fans again and again just how good they are. They came second after only two losses in their division and almost knocked the Rangers off the top spot. They qualify and look to play the winner of the south division.

In south division you have the winners of the division, league and the PitRat Cup the Karak Smashers taking on the Strickland Slammers. This will be a one heck of a game to watch. Finally the last team to qualify were the newly named Loren Tornadoes (formally the Uphill Gardeners) They will face the Loren Rangers in the first ever derby game in the HDWSBBL and possible the first ever woodies v woodies. This again will be a brilliant match to watch.

Season 2 – Week 22 summery – The First Double

After a long league at last we came to the finals. The Karak Smashers who beat the Loren Rangers last week in a thrilling league cup final were out for more as they took on the the Loren Tornadoes who came second in the south division.

The karak smashers qualified by first beating the Ankle Biters fellow south divison team, which was also the only south v south game, 4-0. They then faced the Drackwald Deadhead who after a thrilling first game and a replay qualified as well. The game was long but in the end the smashers won 2-1.

The Tornadoes in the opening round beat the Best of Band 6-1, the highest score in the PitRat cup. They then faced the Middelhein Manhunters who beat Tutbones Re-united 3-0 in the first round.

Both teams played their best. But in the end the Karak Smashers beat the Tornadoes 2-1 and lifted gold for the second time this season. Could we see a treble? Stay tuned.
