The North Division launched into action with a showdown between the reigning HDWSBBL champions, the Flayers, and the rookie Tobacconists. It’s safe to say the odds were firmly stacked against the new boys coming into the game, so it’s unsurprising they decided to invite star Minotaur Grashnak Blackhoof to even things up a little! Seconds after kick-off things only seemed to get worse for the Tobacconists when a Chaos Warrior was killed by one of the Flayers’ line-elves, many a team would have collapsed under such an early setback (Talos’ finest dying at the hands of a pansy elf is more than a little embarresing) but the rookies are made of sterner stuff and hit back, injuring 2 elves in return, though their wizard didn’t fair well with his fireball. Despite solid defending and despite being caught totally off guard by the Tobacconists brutal play the champions managed, just, to take a 1-0 lead into half time. After the break the rookies served up a clinic in ground-and-pound, leaving the Flayers pinned deep in their own half and sending elves flying all over the stadium (including into the waiting arms of the Tobacconists fans!) the Chaos team took their score late in the game, leaving the shell-shocked elves no time to answer back and securing a well earned point. It’s a result that few fans will have expected and many would argue the Flayers were lucky to escape with a point while the Tobacconists will feel they could have taken more from the game, nevertheless, a tremendous start to the season for the rookies who will be hoping the loss of their Chaos warrior doesn’t hurt too much, while the champions will need to improve if they want another stab at the Superbowl.
