Nahuontl Amphistadium

Home Teams

At present the following teams call this stadium their home.

It had been a long time since Nahuontl’s Blood Bowl pitch had been used, as evident to Axolotalan’s eyes by the burying mass of vegetation so thick as to make it near indistinguishable from the surrounding jungle. Under his command, the area was cleared of the jungle that had reclaimed it and a refounding took place. Several of the city’s Kroxigor were set to work hauling and joining massive stone blocks to the stadium’s existing foundation in order to raise the importance of Nahuontl’s Blood Bowl team and to make it the focus of Southlander Blood Bowl culture. After it’s completion, Axolotalan dedicated the amphistadium to the Old One Tzunki, Lord of water, agility and keen eye sight (exactly the kind of god a Blood Bowl playing frog needs…)

Surrounding the amphistadium are beautiful crystal clear pools (what some may liken to as a fancy moat) filled with Giant Amaxon fly-trap water lilies. These ponds can only be crossed via one of 4 causeways, each of which leads to the base of a wide, singular staircase that ascends to the top of the stadium and it’s entrances. The outside design of the amphistadium mimics the surrounding pyramids of the city with it’s large and steeply tiered walls. Inside, much smaller tiers of stone seating run the entire length of the structure and descend all of the way down to field level. When these are filled to capacity with screaming Blood Bowl fans (up to 100,000), the noise can be heard from almost anywhere in the Southlands. Food stalls in place for the crowds serve up roasted tarantulas, Yuxa grubs and crickets, along with a mild hallucinogenic fruit drink the local jungle tribes call Ombongo.

The playing field itself is rather unique as it is set on top of a rectangular, twelve foot tall astrogranite platform. Players gain access to the field via a central staircase which is located at each end zone, and also conveniently, a few yards in front of their dugout. Having been built in such a way means that players who are forced off the side lines find themselves in store for an ungraceful and potentially bone-breaking fall, much to the cheers and laughter of the crowd.

The amphistadium is a grand and colossal monument, and despite the the occasional unnerving shadows of leathery-winged beasts washing across the pitch or the buzzing of giant predatory insects emanating from the lush surrounding jungle, it is a wonderful arena for game day.
